Finding Your Path: What Mufasa and Joseph Teach Us About Purpose, Pain, and God's Plan
This past Sunday at Mosaic Church, Pastor B shared a powerful message for our At the Movies series, using Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King to draw deep connections between the characters of Mufasa and Scar, and the biblical story of Joseph.
Both Mufasa and Joseph were chosen for something great. Neither had an easy road to get there.
Mufasa's story is about more than royalty and leadersh ip — it’s about legacy, identity, and calling. Joseph’s story in Genesis echoes many of the same themes. Though their paths were filled with betrayal, hardship, and waiting, both of their lives point to a truth that many of us need to hear: God’s purpose for you will still stand — even if others try to take you off track.
If you’ve ever felt overlooked, underestimated, or stuck in the middle of a story that feels unfair, this week’s 3 - day Bible reading plan is for you. Whether you're new to faith or just need a fresh reminder that God hasn’t forgotten you, this simple study will walk with you through the life of Joseph and help you reflect on your own.
Day 1 : Understanding Your Origins
Read: Genesis 37:1 – 11
Joseph had big dreams. But his dreams were not met with celebration — they were met with jealousy and betrayal. His brothers sold him into slavery, thinking that would be the end of him. But what they didn’t realize was that they were just pushing him into the very path that God had already planned.
Just like Joseph, Mufasa wasn't handed a crown. He had to grow into who he was called to be. You might not have come from a perfect family or a celebrated background, but your story still matters.
Reflect:
Pray:
“God, help me to see my life the way You see it. Remind me that my past doesn’t limit the future You have planned for me.”
Day 2 : Facing Challenges and Being Clowned
Read: Genesis 39:1 – 23
Joseph did everything right in Potiphar’s house — but he was still falsely accused and thrown into prison. He didn’t deserve it, but it happened anyway. Like Mufasa, who fa ced betrayal in his own story, Joseph’s life was marked by trials that could have broken him. Instead, those trials became the training ground for his calling.
Sometimes people will misunderstand you. You might be “clowned” or mocked for your faith, your d reams, or your mistakes. But don’t give up.
Reflect:
- When have you felt like others treated you unfairly or didn’t see your worth?
- What have your trials taught you about yourself? About God?
- What does it look like to trust God when things feel unfair
Pray:
“Lord, give me strength to walk through hard things without losing hope. Help me trust that You are still working in my life — even when I can't see it.”
Day 3 : Embracing Your Calling and Being Crowned
Read:
Genesis 45:1 – 8; Genesis 50:20
After years of waiting, Joseph’s time finally came. He became second-in-command in Egypt and helped save many lives — including the very brothers who once betrayed him. Joseph didn’t hold a grudge. He saw the bigger picture: what others meant for harm, God used for good.
Mufasa’s story reminds us of legacy, responsibility, and courage. Joseph’s story teaches us about grace, forgiveness, and purpose. Both men were chosen. Both were refined by difficulty. Both left a legacy that changed lives.
Reflect:
- What dream has God placed on your heart?
- What steps can you take today to grow into that calling?
- Who do you need to forgive so you can move forward freely?
Pray:
“God, help me walk boldly into the calling You’ve placed on my life. Grow my character, teach me to forgive, a nd prepare me for what You’ve called me to do.”
Final Thoughts
Mufasa and Joseph remind us that greatness isn’t just about position — it’s about purpose. You might be in a waiting season, or facing hard things that don’t make sense right now. But trust this: God knows where you’re headed, and He’s preparing you along the way.
Let this be your encouragement today:
You are seen. You are chosen. Your story isn’t over.
